Hey there, blogging ladies. Welcome back to another episode of the Boss Lady Bloggers podcast.
I’m your host, Genasys, and today we’re going to be getting real about what it takes to launch a new blog the right way before you even hit that publish button.
If you’re on the verge of launching your blog, or you have been hesitating because you’re not sure if your blog is truly ready or if you’re really ready, this episode is going to be for you. You’re about to learn the key things that you must know before you go live.
And trust me, this mindset that I’m going to be talking about today is truly going to set you up from success from day one. I know how overwhelming it can feel when you’re just starting out, but I’m here to empower you and to show you that you can do this.
With the right strategy, you can build a blog that not only looks incredible, but actually serves a purpose and helps you monetize. From day one, I’m also going to be sharing why I prefer show it over WordPress.
This is a game changer and why you should prioritize offering your own services over relying on affiliate marketing and ads, and how to create a brand that truly makes people want to buy from you. So grab your coffee or tea and let’s jump in to so number one, your mindset is the foundation of your success.
Before we talk about the practical steps of building a blog, we need to start with the mindset. Your mindset is the foundation of everything that you’re about to do with your blog. And I know you might feel like I’m not ready to publish yet.
Or what if people don’t like what I have to say? What if people don’t like my blog? But here’s the truth. If you’re already thinking about starting a blog, then you are ready.
The real battle is overcoming those limiting beliefs that are holding you back. Your blog is a space to share your voice, your expertise and your story. You want to help somebody, right?
You want to help that one specific person with those problems that they are having. Maybe you have had those specific problems and you have overcome them. And now you want to share your message and help others too.
And trust me, there are people out there that need to hear what you have to say, who want what you have to say, who need it. So before you hit publish, remind yourself that you are capable of doing this, that fear and self doubt that you are having in your brain.
It’s normal. Everybody gets it, but they shouldn’t stop you from taking action. And here’s a little pro tip.
Instead of waiting for everything to be perfect, just launch your blog now. You can always tweak things as you grow. What matters most is getting started and letting the process unfold naturally.
If you’re struggling with this mindset shift, let’s chat book a call with me below and I’ll walk you through how to confidently launch your blog and build it into something truly powerful. So let’s talk about why I recommend Showit over WordPress.
We’re going to be getting into the nitty gritty of these platforms when it comes to designing your blog. There’s a big debate between using Showit versus WordPress versus wix versus siteground. Like there’s a lot of platforms out there, right?
But I only recommend Showit, and I’m going to tell you why. Especially for new bloggers, show it gives you the complete freedom, the complete creative freedom to do whatever you want with your website.
Unlike WordPress where you’re limited by themes templates that often require some coding knowledge.
If you want to change anything about it, show it as a drag and drop platform that makes it so easy to design a custom blog without needing any tech skills, you do have to learn the platform. I’m not going to lie, it is a little bit of a learning curve. However, you can design anything that your heart desires.
Once you know the basics of the tools, you can fully control the look and feel of your site and it’s so much easier to update and manage. Here’s why this matters. Your blog’s design is the very first thing that people see when they land on your site.
And if your blog doesn’t look polished, professional and aligned with your brand, people are going to click away before they even read your content. Why would you want that? You don’t. You want to hook them in with your website and your brand.
And then they start reading your site and they’re like wow, I love this blog. And then they’re going to read your blog post and they’re going to sign up to your email list and take the actions that you want them to, right?
Like signing up your email list and purchasing from you. Hello, booking a call to work with you, etcetera. So you can make money with Showit.
You can create a beautiful on brand site that immediately makes people want to stick around. Plus, I showit integrates with WordPress for blogging, so you get the best of both worlds.
You still get the all powerful SEO benefits of WordPress with writing posts on WordPress, but with the design flexibility of Showit. Trust me, it’s absolutely amazing. So there’s this limiting belief out there that, I mean, you have to have a WordPress site if you’re a blogger.
WordPress.org is the thing. I mean, everybody is saying it out there.
You know, if you look up how to start a blog on Pinterest or Google, people are going to tell you, start a blog on WordPress. We don’t believe that here. I’m going to give you some truths here.
Number one, WordPress is extremely difficult to start a blog on because you got to get a theme. You got to learn how to put the theme on WordPress and you can’t really change the look and feel of the theme unless you have a lot of knowledge.
And honestly, like it’s so, so, so complicated to add anything of your own within WordPress. And all of those themes that you buy, they are not set up to get people to purchase from you. They are not designed with sales psychology in mind.
And that is what I do for you.
In my signature blog coaching program, I build your whole entire website for you in a way that’s going to take your readers on a journey to wanting to sign up to your freebies and wanting to purchase from you or book a call to work with you. You know, whatever your call to actions are, I ensure that your website allows your reader to land on the site and be like, wow, I love this person.
Right away I’m feeling all these emotions. This brand is amazing.
This website is taking me on this journey and I definitely sent them to the email list and I’m definitely going to work with this person. You know what I mean?
So your blog design is so important and if you just get WordPress, you’re not going to be able to implement everything that you need to with all the sections that you need to to get somebody to convert into a paying customer. Of course you can add some call to actions in your blog posts and you can do email marketing.
But what if your site was actually truly built to like compel them and captivate them to take the actions that you want so you can make money?
And pro tip, if you want help designing your blog and showit and creating a website that not only looks absolutely stunning, but converts visitors into clients or customers, then you need to book a call with me.
In my signature offer, I build your whole entire beautiful blog brand that is going to really captivate and only like captivate them and look pretty and gorgeous, but also something that means something a brand that is truly going to mean something to your target audience and to you. You want to start a blog that’s going to be like your passion, your baby, your everything. You want to be able to show it off.
You want something that works right? So I’m going to design a brand for you that is going to do that.
And then I’m going to design your website with sales psychology in mind to help your readers go on a journey through your site and actually sign up your email list and purchase from you whatever you have to offer or book a call to work with you. Okay, if you want my signature offer. Oh, also I’m going to do six months of coaching after where you get one coaching call every single week.
And we’re going to go step by step to building a highly profitable blogging business covering all topics that you’re ever going to need to start, grow and monetize this thing truly. Okay, starting a profitable blogging business. That’s what I’m going to show you to do.
If you want the signature offer, you can book a call with me below and you can also check out more details in the show notes below as well. Okay, moving on. Number three, why your own offers and services are way more powerful than affiliate marketing.
So here’s another key point that I want to stress, and this is something that I see a lot of new bloggers getting wrong. You want to focus on your own offers and services before affiliate marketing and ads. And I get it.
Affiliate marketing and ads seem like the obvious way to make money, right? And the easiest way.
Like wow, I can just write posts every week, I can insert affiliate links, I can add ads to my site and wow, I’m going to make money blogging, right? But let me tell you why your own offers will always be more powerful and way better of your time to make money.
When you create your own offer, whether it’s a service, a digital product or a course, you’re the one that’s in control. You get to decide what you sell, how much you charge and how you position it.
And more importantly, you’re offering something that is directly aligned with your brand and your audience’s needs. This positions you as an expert in your niche. Affiliate marketing and ads, on the other hand, often feel very disconnected from your core message.
Sure, they can bring in a tiny bit of income, maybe a dollar here and there, but they shouldn’t be your primary strategy, especially when you’re just starting. Okay? Because you need a lot, a lot of blog traffic in the beginning to make money from affiliate marketing and ads.
Believe it or not, I’m talking like 5000 plus monthly visitors coming to your blog, which is a very high target. Especially now with all these algorithms on these platforms. They have changed. It is not easy to get blog traffic anymore. It takes a lot of time.
So you can either focus on affiliate marketing and ads and need a ton of blog traffic, thousands and thousands, to make a decent income. I mean, enough to pay your bills and like live comfortably, or you can take my route and that is creating your own offers.
Focus on solving your audience’s problems with your own offers and the income is going to come so much faster. So think about it.
If somebody lands on your blog and sees that you offer a service or a product that directly solves that specific person’s problem, they’re more likely to buy from you than clicking on affiliate linker ADHD that they probably, I mean, like most people do not buy from affiliate links.
I’m just gonna tell you right now, just take it from my experience as I started a blog back in 2017, okay, and I did not make anything in affiliate marketing and ad revenue. I maybe made a couple dollars and that is it in the whole first two years. And I tried everything, everything.
I looked up so much on how to make money blogging with affiliate marketing and ads and all the different strategies on how to do it. And it just was not working for me. Nobody wanted what I was advertising.
And you can’t get approved for any like bigger affiliate links and ads to put on your site, like in the beginning anyway, because you need traffic. I mean, medivine doesn’t even let you apply for their ads to get ads on your site.
You know, Metavine doesn’t even let you apply until you have reached 10,000 visitors on your site consistently. So I mean, it’s just really hard to make money if you don’t have traffic with affiliate links and ads.
And I know, like you’re probably just inserting affiliate links and ads into your blog posts and you’re hoping and praying that something is eventually going to work out. But if you don’t focus heavily on your marketing and grow those traffic numbers, it’s just not going to work.
But on the other hand, if you offer your own services and products, digital products on your blog, you only need a little bit of people to purchase for you to make a decent amount of income, especially if you’re offering like a service which is more like priced highly, you know, because the higher you price things, the less people you need. And that is my strategy I do my signature offer. It’s like an all in one thing.
You get branding, you get a whole website design and you get six months of blog coaching to teach you how to do everything in the right way the first time, so it saves you so much of your time and energy. But anyways, my strategy is to price my services, my coaching or my signature offer, like very highly and then do small monthly payments.
So I’m making monthly recurring revenue and stacking that as I get more and more clients and then they pay that off for like one or two years. And then, you know, I’m promised income for the next one or two years, which is amazing.
And then that allows me to have enough money to not only run this business, but also to take breaks when I need it. You know, I can take a break whenever I want to. And for example, this weekend’s my birthday, so I’m going to take off, no problem.
I’m not going to do anything. You know, weekends I have off, no problem. I don’t have to go to a job in the week. I stay home with my baby and I work two days a week. That’s it.
And it gives me like a life of freedom, you know? But whatever strategy you choose, you do need at least some people. So you do need to focus on marketing either way.
However, with affiliate marketing and ads, you just need to focus on it like much more heavily than you would too if you were going to do like a high ticket course or high ticket coaching program, etcetera.
So if you need help creating your first offer that you’re going to sell, whether it’s a coaching service, digital product or something else, I would love to work with you. We cover this step by step inside of my coaching program.
Book a call with me below and I will help you map out an offer that connects with your audience and positions you as the go to expert in your niche. I will help you write sales emails and set up a sales sequence if you want to.
Whatever your goals are, I will help you do it because I know you don’t want to just blog. I know you want to have a business and you want to make money and you’re thinking that affiliate marketing and ads are the way to go.
But trust me, from my own experience, selling your own offers is like the game changer it was for me. As soon as I started to sell my own offers, I started to make money. So just think about that.
Number four, why branding and brand messaging are non negotiable.
This is where a lot of bloggers miss the mark if you struggle to, or if you don’t have your branding and messaging dialed in before you hit publish, you’re really going to struggle to connect with your audience in a meaningful way. Branding isn’t just about having a pretty logo or a nice color palette, although those things are very important.
Branding is actually about the experience that you create for your audience. It’s the feeling that people get when they visit your blog, read your post, engage with your content and even purchase your offers.
It’s what makes people remember you and actually want to come back to your site. Your brand messaging, on the other hand, is how you communicate who you are, what you stand for, what you offer.
It’s your voice, your values, the way you speak to your audience. And here’s the kicker, consistency is key. I know you hear this a million times, but it’s true.
If your messaging is all over the place, people won’t know what you stand for or how you can help them. Let me rephrase that again. If your messaging is all over the place, people won’t know what you stand for or how you can help them.
Before you hit publish, you need to make sure that your brand and messaging are aligned with your audience and your offers. Ask yourself, what do I want my audience to feel when they interact with my blog? How can I position myself as the person who can solve their problem?
For example, I’m building a brand called fizzy and free. And Ashley, which is my client, she came to me and she had a tiny, tiny vision. All she knew was, I want to help moms become alcohol free.
I want to help the moms who go to alcohol as their resort to dealing with like, the stress and anxiety and the overwhelm of being a mom. And I want to help them.
I want to help them be and stay alcohol free and live their best life and be able to regulate themselves as being a mom, you know, and be able to use other methods of coping with their stress and anxiety and overwhelm that they face being a mom. Because obviously being a mom is very, very hard. It’s not easy. So, yeah, but okay, she came to me with that very simple vision.
And so I turned it into a brand that helps moms come and escape reality. And it’s like blues and sailboats and beaches and all the blues and sand colors and our elements that we chose are birds and waves.
And it just feels like they are coming to a beach or they’re on a vacation. And they need that.
You know, moms need a very serene and comfortable and calm and tranquil place that they feel like they can come to and just let go and just be on vacation and relax and to not have any worries about talking about what they want to. They want to feel comfortable.
And so we created a brand that helps them feel that as soon as they land on my client Ashley’s website, I’ll link it for you below. If you want to see what I’m talking about, you will feel the vibe as soon as you land on the site. It feels like freedom.
So that’s what you want to do with your brand.
You have to think, okay, who is my target audience and what do I want them to feel and then what am I going to offer them that is going to solve their biggest problem? Before you hit publish, you want to make sure that your brand and messaging are completely aligned with your audience and offers.
What do they want to feel and how can I position as myself as the person who can solve their problem?
And pro tip, if you’re not sure how to craft a brand message that speaks directly to your audience and makes them want to work with you and compels them and makes them feel emotions and makes them have a really good experience in your brand and on your website and reading your blog post and everything, then book a call with me. I specialize in helping ladybloggers create brands that are not only beautiful, but also deeply connect to their mission and audience.
Number five, what makes people want to buy for you? Yeah, that’s what number five is. What makes people want to buy from you.
Now let’s get into what really makes somebody want to actually purchase from you. Because this is something that I see a lot of bloggers struggle with, how to turn visitors into paying clients or customers.
The secret to making people want to buy from you is by understanding who that specific person is on a deep, deep level. It’s by understanding their pain points better than they do.
If you can understand somebody better than they do, better than they know themselves, that’s game changer.
When you know exactly what your audience is struggling with and you offer a solution that speaks directly to those needs, the decision to buy becomes a no brainer. So here’s what makes people want to buy. Number one, trust. People buy from those that they actually trust. Like truly, truly trust.
And trust is built through consistent, authentic communication. And this is why your brand messaging needs to be aligned with who you are and what you stand for.
If you’re consistently showing up, delivering value and being authentic, the trust is going to follow value. People need to feel like your offer is worth more than what they’re paying for it. So always ten x the value of whatever you’re offering.
Okay, so like if a service that you’re offering is $1,000, the value of that should be like 3000. People want to think that they’re getting a discount or a very good deal. You know, this doesn’t mean that you need to discount your services at all.
Actually, I highly recommend that you never discount your services unless you’re doing like holiday discounts or like a flash sale here and there. But it means that you need to clearly communicate the value of what you’re offering.
Show them how your product or service will make their life easier, solve their problem, save them time, help them to do it the right way the first time, or just make a difference in their life. If they can truly understand the value of what you’re offering them, they will buy. If it solves their problem, they will buy.
If they have a desire to buy it, they’re going to buy it.
Also, connection people want to buy from somebody that they connect with and this is why it’s so, so, so important to share your story, your personality, your passion. Through your blog and branding.
Your about me page is very, very important because you can have your story on there, your timeline, youre quiz, and to be able to show who you are and build a connection with you. Don’t be afraid to let people see the real you. That’s what makes them feel connected and invested in your success.
They will want to be your biggest supporters when they can truly connect with you. When you combine trust, value and connection, selling will become effortless.
As long as you know that person and you like on a deep, deep level and you communicate your messaging properly for whatever you want to offer, your audience is going to feel drawn to work with you because they see you as the person who gets them. They’re like, wow, she’s really in my head. She knows exactly what I’m struggling with. She knows what I need and what I want.
She knows what I’m thinking in my mind every single day. She knows what keeps me up at night. And she has an offer that is literally going to be the solution that they need to overcome these problems.
So pro tip, if you’re ready to create offers that speak directly to your audience’s pain points and make them so excited to buy and craft that messaging that really compels them to press that buy button or to press the book a call button to press that pay now button.
