Hey there, blogging ladies! Welcome back to another episode of the Boss Lady Bloggers Blog. I’m Genasys, your go-to gal for all things blogging. Today, we’re getting real. Like, extra real. We’re talking about the challenges that bloggers face—the ones that make you want to shut your laptop, binge-watch Netflix, and question why you ever started a blog in the first place.
Guess what? Those feelings? Totally normal.
Even seasoned bloggers like me deal with these struggles on the regular. But the difference between bloggers who crush it and those who quit is simple: the successful ones keep going—even when it’s messy.
By the time you finish reading this, you’ll have a game plan to tackle blogging challenges head-on. You’ll feel inspired, empowered, and ready to own your space as the boss lady blogger you are.
Grab your coffee, your notebook, or maybe just your phone (if you’re reading this during your “quiet moment”), and let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of blogging success.
LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE –
Let’s start with branding—aka, why your blog feels “meh.” Branding isn’t just about slapping on a cute logo or picking a Pinterest-worthy color palette. It’s about creating a cohesive experience that screams YOU.
Your blog is your digital handshake. It’s the way you say, “Hi, I know my stuff. You can trust me.” Without a strong brand, your blog might feel like a messy personal diary rather than a professional space.
Here’s what a branding issue looks like:
• Your colors, fonts, and layouts are all over the place.
• Your message doesn’t speak to a specific audience or solve their pain points.
• Visitors don’t stay long enough to read, subscribe, or buy.
If people aren’t subscribing, clicking, or buying, you likely have a branding problem.
Your brand should feel like a person. Is it warm and approachable, like a bestie? Or bold and sassy, like that friend who tells it like it is? Write down the emotions you want your readers to feel when they land on your site.
You don’t need a fancy design degree for this! Here’s a DIY version:
• Pick 3-5 colors that reflect your vibe. (Hint: Use color psychology to guide you!)
• Choose 2-3 fonts—one for headings, one for body text, and maybe one fun accent font.
• Design a simple, clean logo. (If you’re not confident in your skills, invest in a professional.)
Once you have your branding in place, use it everywhere—your blog, Instagram, Pinterest, and even your email newsletters.
• Flodesk: Perfect for beautiful, on-brand email newsletters.
• Showit: A drag-and-drop platform that makes designing a professional website a breeze.
We’ve all been there: staring at our blogs and thinking, “Why does this look like a hot mess?” Your website is the backbone of your blogging business. If it’s hard to navigate, cluttered, or just plain ugly, you’re losing potential readers and buyers.
• Visitors bounce after just a few seconds.
• Your site lacks clear call-to-actions (CTAs).
• Your blog posts are the homepage—no dedicated pages for “About,” “Services,” or “Shop.”
I know, switching platforms sounds scary, but trust me, it’s worth it. Showit is drag-and-drop, no coding required, and fully customizable. Plus, it’s built with conversions in mind.
Think of your website as a store. If people can’t find what they’re looking for, they’ll leave. Use simple menu labels like:
• Home
• About
• Blog
• Shop
Avoid creative labels like “My Journey” or “Let’s Chat.”
With over 70% of traffic coming from mobile devices, your blog needs to look flawless on phones.
The blogging world loves to tell you to “niche down.” While this advice has its place, it’s also super paralyzing for new bloggers.
It’s not about what you write about—it’s about who you’re writing for. Your niche isn’t a topic; it’s the person you’re helping.
Instead of narrowing your blog to one topic, think about who you want to help. What are their pain points, and how can you solve them?
Write about a variety of topics at first and see what resonates with your audience.
Your readers connect with you, not just your content. Share your struggles, wins, and experiences to build a deeper relationship with your audience.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever Googled “how to grow a blog” and ended up with 27 open tabs on SEO, Pinterest, email marketing, and affiliate programs.
Free advice gives you pieces of the puzzle but rarely the full picture. Instead of feeling empowered, you feel stuck, wondering where to even begin.
Pick one area—like SEO or email marketing—and stick with it for 90 days.
Freebies are great, but they only scratch the surface. Invest in programs or coaching that offer actionable, step-by-step guidance.
Break tasks into manageable chunks. For example:
• Day 1: Research blog post topics.
• Day 2: Write the introduction.
• Day 3: Format and publish.
That little voice in your head saying, “Who am I to do this?” is imposter syndrome. It’s a mindset block that every new blogger faces.
The fact that you care so much means you’re on the right path.
You don’t need to be the most experienced person in the room to help someone.
Confidence comes from doing. Hit publish, even if it’s not perfect.
You know what you need to do, but instead of starting, you scroll Instagram or reorganize your pantry—for the third time this week.
Tell yourself you’ll work on a task for just five minutes. Starting is often the hardest part, but once you’re in the flow, it’s easier to keep going.
For example:
• Day 1: Research blog post ideas.
• Day 2: Write the introduction.
• Day 3: Add headings and bullet points.
Keep a “done” list to remind yourself of all the progress you’ve made.
Starting a project is easy. Finishing? Not so much.
Focus on one project at a time. Don’t start a new project until the current one is finished.
Use a tool like Notion to break projects into smaller tasks with deadlines.
A blogging coach or fellow blogger can keep you on track and motivated.
If you’re relying on ads or affiliate links to make money, you’re leaving cash on the table. These strategies require high traffic to generate meaningful income.
Think about your audience’s pain points and create products that address them.
Write blog posts that lead readers to your product, promote it on social media, and create email sales funnels.
Use a free checklist or guide to attract subscribers, then upsell them to a related product.
Big Takeaway: Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. You’ve got this, boss lady! 💪
